PRINCIPLES - TECHNIQUES

Minimum
movement

The idea is a very simple one. Imagine having to close distance. The less distance to close, the faster and easier. The problem of this concept arises when you start looking at the posture of the body, that is, the posture of ukemi and torimi working with each other.

I will illustrate an example from ai-hanmi and gyaku-hanmi position. Imagine a gyaku-hanmi position where ukemi attacks using junzuki. Torimi responds to this movement using uchi uke.

In wadoryu, it is regarded enough if the attack passes and isn't able to hit the body.

If in gyaku-hanmi, the uchi uke defense may be held in the center, the attack will pass. But, if you would hold the uchi uke defense in the same position when you are in ai-hanmi, you would still be hit. This has to do with the imaginary line from the opponents weapon to its target.
