PRINCIPLES - TECHNIQUES

seiza

Seiza is a funny thing. What appears on the surface to possibly be obsequious or a matter of supplication is actually an expression of power. The dynamic of the movement flows in a spiral both in descent and ascending. This quietly flowing kinetic energy hints at the latent power implicit in the concept of ‘Nen’ … the earth’s initial movement in its rotation… not the actual movement.. but the impulse that initiates the rotation of the earth. Nen, whilst complete unto itself as a phenomenon, is born of the past and flows with this into the future. If seiza is practiced each day it will nurture an ability to harness a cognition of, and cohesiveness with the initial moment of earth’s kinetic energy while developing a profound understanding of Sen. Understanding the nature of the relationship between Nen and Sen within one’s body fosters the production of stillness within movement… and a movement within stillness…, which will help in predicting and pre-empting movement in others.
